Having problems with your central heating?   I’m Rod Pavek, your local Gas Safe registered engineer in Hastings. I work on complete central heating systems including boilers, radiators, pumps, valves, controls and hot water cylinders.

I can install a complete new central heating system if required, but many of the jobs I’m asked to do are much smaller. You might want to replace an old radiator, add a heated towel rail to the bathroom, replace a hot water cylinder or simply find out why part of your heating system isn’t working as it should.

Central heating problems aren’t always caused by the boiler. A radiator that stays cold, poor circulation, unusual noises or rooms that don’t heat properly can have a number of causes. Pumps, valves, controls and the condition of the water circulating through the system can all affect its performance, so finding the cause of the problem comes first.

Older systems can sometimes suffer from a build-up of corrosion products and sludge. This can restrict circulation, leave radiators cold in places and make the whole system less effective. Where appropriate, a power flush can help remove this contamination and improve circulation, but I won’t recommend one simply because a heating system isn’t performing properly. I’ll first look at the system and advise you on the most appropriate solution.

Looking after the water inside a central heating system is important too. When a system is filled or refilled, a suitable corrosion inhibitor can help protect the radiators, pipework and other components from internal corrosion and reduce the formation of sludge.
